Yunnan Province isn’t wasting any time in seeking to remediate the arsenic pollution in Yongzonghai (阳宗海) which we reported on last month. It has invited bids on a project which reportedly has two components (the news report has them slightly garbled; what follows is from the bid tender itself):
- Lower the average arsenic concentration in Yangzonghai from the current .128 mg/l to < or equal to 0.05 mg/l within three years, by
- determining arsenic loading from groundwater entering the lake and by controlling the average arsenic concentration in the connected groundwater to < or equal to 0.1mg/l through mature, safe, effective and feasible technology and engineering measures such as blockade, abatement, absorption and separation.
The bid tender is open to domestic and “international bidders.”
Interested? Here is information on the bid process (in Chinese and English). The “applicant” must be
an independent legal entity , or an association of multiple legal entities [not exceeding three in total] The applicant must possess good reputation, financial strength and have mature technologies and engineering experiences for arsenic pollution control and water quality restoration in [a] similar setting.
All documents must be received by Friday, November 28, 2008, at 5:30 PM (Beijing standard time).
